ABOUT VEZI TAYYEB
MUSIC CREATOR, CREATIVE ENABLER
“As a child I taught myself to play the piano after a few disastrous piano ‘lessons’ that ended rather badly. And guitar, that was the first instrument I took seriously and was relatively late to the game with having started when I was 15.“
“After only a year or two, I began writing songs. Our band even cobbled together a small 4 track studio to record my original songs. That small studio became Kensington Sound. From the time Kensington opened its doors to the outside world, my whole life changed. Instead of playing guitar or writing songs, I became an audio engineer out of sheer necessity. Along the way, I also morphed into a studio musician on guitar and keyboards, a collaborating songwriter, and then became a producer. All out of inevitable necessity.
Almost 30 years later after a pivotal soul-searching trip to the Middle East and India, I circled back to the beginning and began writing and recording my own songs again resulting in two CDs ‘Army Of Angels’ and ‘Between Us All’ and the correlating singles.”
A Sufi parable I’d heard as a boy.
In a small seaside village, there was an old man who come to the dock every morning to fish with a tree branch. Although it sometimes took all day, he always caught a fish, which he’d then take home and cook. If it were big enough, he’d share it with his neighbours.
The younger fishermen made fun of him. “Silly man, you’re a very good fisherman, and yet you only use a single tree branch. Why do you waste your time?”
“Why am I wasting my time?”
“You’re wasting your time because if you came out to sea with us, you could use our rods and catch not just one fish but many. You’d do that because if you caught many fish you could return to the village and sell them”.
Again, the same reply “Why would I do that?”
The boys are irritated now. “Old man, you’d do that because you could then afford to buy a bigger boat than ours, go farther out to sea, catch even more fish, and make even more money”.
“And what would be the point of that?”
“Silly man, if you caught and sold enough fish you could hire a crew to do all your work, which would allow you to fish whenever you want and do what you wish.”
To which the old man replied “ But that is what I’m doing now.”
